美国人对住房感觉很糟糕。根据房利美 (Fannie Mae) 7 月份的购房信心指数，只有 18% 的人表示现在是 购房的好时机 ，创下历史新低。人们仍然将严峻的住房条件归因于高房价和不利的抵押贷款利率。
由于购房热潮和人们对改善居家空间的需求，2020 年至 2022 年疫情期间的家居装修支出大幅增长。充足的家庭资产负债表，加上家居装修商品和服务的价格上涨，提振了家得宝(Home Depot)等公司的股价。
但美国消费者最近减少了可自由支配支出，包括家居装修购买。
